Powerwolf Unleashes A Lycanthropic Rage In New Cinematic Video “1589”

Powerwolf, known for their elaborate and high-quality music videos, has once again pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling with the release of “1589.” This ambitious new video accompanies the band’s latest single, the first from their forthcoming album “Wake Up the Wicked,” due out July 26th via Napalm Records.

The High Priests of Heavy Metal have consistently delivered visually stunning and thematically rich videos that enhance their musical identity. With “1589,” they’ve undoubtedly reached a new level of ambition, and fans can expect to be drawn into the world of the video.

“Wake Up the Wicked” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated power metal releases of the year, even in a genre already saturated with strong contenders. Powerwolf’s has always had this dedication to creating both powerful music and visually immersive experiences sets them apart as a driving force in the heavy metal scene.

The song “1589” goes into the chilling tale of Peter Stumpf, a 16th-century resident of Cologne, Germany, who has gained notoriety as the “Werewolf of Bedburg.” Stumpf’s story is one of alleged lycanthropy and confessed murders, in which he admitted to torturing his victims before his execution on October 31st, 1589 – a date that aligns perfectly with the song’s title.

This dark tale, with all of the supernatural and historical horror, provides fertile ground for Powerwolf’s signature style of theatricality and heavy metal. It’s a story that has been told to audiences for centuries, and Powerwolf’s take on it is sure to spark interest and discussion among fans and history buffs alike. I mean, after all, they are like Sabaton with wearwolfs.

To bring Stumpf’s chilling tale to life, the band traveled to a remote location in England, constructing a stage amidst the dark woods to film the accompanying music video. The resulting visuals are nothing short of cinematic, and this is just one of the many reasons why Powerwolf’s commitment to creating immersive and visually stunning experiences for their fans is second to none. The video is one of their most ambitious productions to date.

And, of course, the Powerwolf news train doesn’t stop here. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more details about the band’s highly anticipated follow-up to their 2021 album, “Call of the Wild.” Excitingly, Powerwolf is also set to embark on a North American tour, hot on the heels of their first-ever North American jaunt not too long ago. Joining them on this journey are labelmates and fellow powermetal icons, Unleash the Archers. And for our European friends, don’t worry, Powerwolf has a few dates lined up on your side of the pond as well. It’s a good time to be a Powerwolf fan. You guys are eating good.
