Exclusive Premiere: Jenny Don’t And The Spurs Release Video ‘Broken Hearted Blue’

Julia Varga

Tomorrow’s the day the sun shines a little brighter on the Portland music scene, as that Cow Punk outfit, Jenny Don’t and the Spurs, unleash their brand-spankin’ new album on Fluff & Gravy Records. But hold your horses just a little bit longer, because before the sun dips below the horizon tonight, we have quite the treat for you. As today, we’re  much obliged to give you the premiere of the video of the title track for the album “Broken Hearted Blue.” And right now, you can also mosey on over to here and pre-order the album.

Now in the heart of the American West, where the sun-baked earth stretches towards a horizon painted in hues of ochre and amber, lies a town well-acquainted with the solitude of the desert. It’s a place where whispers of the past mingle with the howl of the wind, where secrets are buried deep beneath the shifting sands, and maybe in the parking lot. And in this desolate landscape rides a solitary figure, a silhouette against the unforgiving sky, carrying with him the weight of a thousand untold stories.

He’s a nomad of the asphalt trails, a modern-day outlaw with a guitar slung over his back instead of a six-shooter. The venue doors swing open like that of a saloon, the eyes of the town upon him. They know his kind—the kind that carries the sound of classic country in their heart and a rock and roll in their soul. He’s just passing through, leaving nothing but echoes and maybe some cool merch in his wake.

This stranger isn’t looking for trouble, nor love. His boots carry stories of a hundred towns just like this one, and his eyes hold the glint of a man who’s seen the world but never stopped long enough to let it hold him. He knows he is there for just one night. Because soon, he has to get out of Dodge.  He’s the embodiment of the song ‘Broken Hearted Blue.’

About the track, Jenny Don’t comments:

The concept for this song struck me during a never-ending drive through the vast deserts of the American West while on tour. When you’re on the road, you’re constantly on the move, spending just one night in each place. There’s a certain romance in the heat, the breathtaking desert landscapes, and the anticipation of waking up to a new destination each day. With the fleeting nature of tour life, there’s never enough time for love, which only makes it all the more tempting.

Jenny Don’t possesses a voice that echoes the golden era of country, a timeless instrument of itself in which you can feel the bittersweet ache in her delivery as she sings about theses lyrics of love lost in the the American West. Now this is all complimented by her guitar style, which sounds like it might come right off the streets of Bakersfield, backed by the cash-drag rhythm of new drummer Buddy Weeks.

As for the album, what’s great about it is that it’s a rootsy revival, a return to the band’s core influences while showcasing their ever-evolving commitment to their signature sound. If you’re looking for that nostalgic hit of pure country music magic, when it was at it’s best well, you’ve found it right here. And if you need that electrifying pulse of rock and roll that sets your soul on fire, that’s here too.

It’s a sound they’ve been honing and perfecting since their early days, back when they were just a bunch of wide-eyed musicians kicking up dust on the road. But on this new album, they’ve taken that familiar flavor and thrown it in the pot with a whole heap of other genres, creating a  smorgasbord that’ll leave you wanting seconds.

So again, if you’re ready to take that ride through the American West, you can pre-order the album here, which is out tomorrow.

And if you’re eager to experience the band’s energy live, you’re in luck. They’re currently in the middle of a tour, with a stop in Greenfield, MA today. They’ll be hitting up other cities including New York, Columbus, and Salt Lake City before wrapping up the tour back home in Oregon.

Jenny Don’t and the Spurs will be crossing the pond for a series of festival dates and shows starting on July 5th. They’ll be playing in various countries including Germany and the Netherlands. For a complete list of dates, be sure to check the tour schedule below.
